Senate Bill 3024 signed by Governor Haley Barbour on April 20, 2007 authorized the University of Mississippi Medical Center to provide care for abused and neglected children at the Blaire E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson, Mississippi. The bill created a Center of Excellence that in addition to providing forensic medical examinations will conduct research initatives in child maltreatment and offer educational programs to child abuse professionals.  The bill authorized the creation of satellite clinics and use of tele-medicine to provide care state wide.  Representatives from local law enforcement, the Department of Human Services, the Office of the Attorney General, the Department of Pediatrics at UMC and a representative from a children’s advocacy center serve on the CJC Advisory Board.
