Frequently Asked Questions
Who can make a referral?
Referrals are accepted by law enforcement, DHS, child advocacy centers and health care providers.

Is there a charge for services?
There is no fee to the requesting agency for the medical assessment. Reports of the medical findings are provided to law enforcement, DHS and child advocacy centers on each child examined at the CARE clinics.

Does a forensic interview need to be done prior to referring the child for a medical evaluation?
No, a forensic interview is desirable, but not necessary. Anytime a child discloses child sexual abuse, a referral should be made to the Children’s Justice Center or one of the satellite clinics.

Is staff available to testify in a youth court or criminal proceeding?
Yes, subpoenas may be faxed to 601.984.5257. Please provide three to six weeks notice prior to trial, if possible.
